Warning of Fake and Damaging
Scott Walton Sites
A Web Surfer's Warning...
In the past few days, ScottWalton.Org has
recieved several complaints of being redirected to pornographic web
sites after searching google and other search engines for campaign
related sites. In response, ScottWalton.Org searched Google
and found the site. While it is not pornographic at all times,
it is a redirect site that often leads to pornographic pop-ups. Even
trying to exit the pop up is futile because hundreds of pop ups
begin appearing in rapid succession, essentially stopping the
computer and forcing the user to forcibly shut down their machine
and reboot. Forcing a computer to shut down can cause software
malfunctions which require a professional to repair.
Visitors, thinking they are clicking on a site
that will offer information about Scott Walton and the campaign are
led into a site that traps them into an endless loop, trying to
force the visitor to download software from the site. In all
likelihood, the software being downloaded is malicious and will
cause damage to the user's computer. Sometimes, the visitor is
made to believe that their anti-virus software has detected a
problem, tricking the user into downloading the same suspicious
software.
The site found on this search turned up on the
third page of the google listing but it will likely change
positions. Also, other sites may begin popping up.
ScottWalton.Org reminds everyone that the only
official site for Scott Walton for Sheriff news and information is
this site, www.scottwalton.org.
To ensure you're not accidentally allowing
yourself to be attacked with a virus, and that you do not end up
going to a malicious site, make sure that the site you are visiting
is a trusted site that you know and use regularly. If you are
looking for the official web page of Scott Walton for Rogers County
Sheriff, make sure the address begins with "scottwalton.org" or
bookmark (favorite place) this site. No other sites are
offered by Scott Walton.
If you were a victim of the malicious site,
we're sorry it happened and remind you that we're targets of this
mischief as well. We don't want to ever discourage anyone from
researching their candidates and the World Wide Web is a powerful
tool to use when researching candidates but please take a moment to
make certain you are staying safe from damaging your computer or
getting tricked into downloading a virus.
Thanks for your support!
