Firefighters Endorse Walton for Sheriff
The Owasso Firefighter Union voted to endorse
Scott Walton to be the next Rogers County Sheriff.
The endorsement was issued to
Walton on Tuesday night, the same night the group met.
Earlier in the evening, Walton
and his opponent had attended a forum at the Catoosa Community
Center which was hosted by the Catoosa Chamber of Commerce.
Both candidates went to the
Owasso Firefighter Union meeting seeking their endorsement and both
candidates were afforded an opportunity to present their platforms
and speak to the membership. When both candidates were heard
from the membership weighed the platforms and decided which
candidate would better serve the interests of public safety.
In
a letter written to Walton, Firefighter Union President Shane Atwell
wrote that the membership had issued a collective endorsement of
Walton to be the next Sheriff of Rogers County.
"It is our belief that you
display the character, experience, and professionalism required to
lead the Rogers County Sheriff's Department."
Walton, reading the letter, said he was humbled
by the endorsement and grateful for the support he received from the
firefighters. "These guys are dedicated
to making sure the public is safe and out of danger. These
guys make going above and beyond the call of duty look routine."
"It is an honor to extend our endorsement to
Walton," read the letter.
"What I'm especially proud of,"
Walton said, "is that the Firefighters Union had a chance to look at
both platforms, side by side, and were able to see that what I'm
interested in is keeping the public safe and making the Rogers
County Sheriff's Office the better than it is today."
