Spotlight on: Leon
Hershberger
Scott
Walton's campaign involves a lot of hard work from a lot of good
people. One of those people, who can be credited with keeping the
campaign running smoothly, is Leon Hershberger.
Somewhere behind the scenes,
Leon can always be found working; just look for the tall man with
the ear to ear grin, sporting a gentle manner, and always speaking
kindly and quietly.
Hershberger leads the way for
the Scott
Walton for Sheriff sign team. "He does an excellent job," said
Walton. "He's driven, enthusiastic, honest, hard working, and
is always looking for ways to help people. I'm really proud to have
Leon on my team." The
work is hard and demanding but Leon has been able to make it look
easy. "I worked up a strategy on sign placement so we could
have a strong finish," Walton said. "We held back on putting
out signs until the last couple of months and I knew it was going to
be a lot of hard work putting all those signs out in a short amount
of time but I also knew we had Leon and he's been instrumental in
getting a very hard
job done," Walton added.
Leon is an impressive
individual. Quiet and reserved and never one to tout his own
accomplishments, Hershberger packs a house full of respectability
that he's most certainly earned.
"If everyone had a work ethic
like Leon, I think the world would be a much different, much better
place," said Walton.
Rose Walton also praises Leon's
work on the campaign. "Leon's someone who would never let us
down. When he says something is going to be done, you can
count on it not only being done, but being done right. I'm really
proud of Leon and grateful that he's on our team." Rose also
noted that no matter what the circumstances, Leon always displays
politeness. "He's a great ambassador for Scott. He's a great
ambassador for whoever he represents," she added.
When he's not campaigning, he works in the
finance industry at Oklahoma National Bank. Leon earned a
great deal of experience in government when he served as an intern
in a governmental office in Washington D.C. and he uses the lessons
he learned serving people in his personal and professional life.
"I love helping people," Leon says.
Leon's education is an
impressive story in and of itself. Leaving school just after
the
eighth grade to go to work, most people would never return to an
educational setting but Leon was driven to succeed and knew that
formal education would be needed in order to climb the ladder. Leon
earned a scholarship, returned to school, and proudly graduated with
a degree from Rogers State University.
"Everyday, I give my
family the best of me. Family is always first for me and that's
something I share in common and admire about Scott. He is a
family first man and that impresses me," Hershberger said.
"When I'm working through the
week, I give my employer my all. When I am working for Scott
on the weekend, I give the campaign my all. I believe in Scott and I believe that Rogers
County needs him as Sheriff in order to meet the future. He's
a great leader and he's going to make an extraordinary sheriff.
I'm just glad to be in a position to help him get his message out."
Leon is well versed in volunteer work.
Aside from political interests, Leon has served as a volunteer for
numerous organizations all aimed at public service and has served as
a mentor for kids. "There's nothing better than knowing,
at the end of a day, that you played a part in making a positive
difference for someone," he said.
Leon Hershberger is a name not
to be forgotten. "I think Leon's on his way up and will do great
things," said Walton. "People like Leon are few and far
between and I'm lucky to have him. Anyone who gets Leon on their
team will be quick to realize that they're lucky to have him on
their side."
