November 5, 2008 —
There’s a new
sheriff in town, and his name is Scott Walton.
“Man, I feel
great,” Walton said Tuesday night after receiving word of his 20,422
to 17,641- vote victory over Republican candidate Cole Butler.
Walton and Rogers
County Democrats held a watch party and celebraton at the Will
Rogers Round-Up Club.
“I’m so thankful
for the support of my friends and family members, many of who are
here this evening,” Walton said. “I’m glad the voters of Rogers
County chose me to represent them as their sheriff, in which
capacity, I’ll do everything in my power to give them the safety and
quality of life they expect and deserve.”
Walton kept his
enthusiasm largely in check throughout the evening, even as precinct
victories were tallied on the chart tracking votes he and Butler
received.
But even with the
loss of some precincts — particularly those in Owasso, where Butler
won in all three precincts — near the evening’s end, Walton’s new
status as sheriff-elect became evident.
“Scott will be
outstanding for our county. I know he’ll do a great job,” said
Myrtle Prather, wife of outgoing sheriff Jerry Prather, who
supported Walton.
