Owasso Reporter The Owasso Reporter has endorsed Scott Walton for Rogers County Sheriff. The endorsement was published in Tuesday's edition of the Owasso Reporter in the Opinions section. The newspaper analyzed and compared both campaigns and chose Walton's. "We believe Walton understands the critical issue of staffing and response time which needs to be addressed in the department. We believe he can strengthen the existing staff and expand it through a reserve deputy program." read Tuesday's edition of the Owasso Reporter. The newspaper reported that Walton sees a need for better response time by deputies to calls for help. "He wants to incorporate the best resources and technology available to fight crime," the Reporter wrote.
The paper pointed out that Walton would pursue
a reserve deputy program to expand the availability of officers and
reduce response times and that Walton would also work together with
prosecutors to initiate a program that concentrated on repeat
offenders. Other political races were endorsed by the Reporter including John McCain and Sarah Palin for the Presidency and Vice Presidency; Jim Inhofe for United States Senate; John Sullivan for Congress; and encouraged readers to vote yes on each of the State Questions which appear on the ballot. In local races, the Reporter endorsed Peggy Armstrong for County Clerk and Jack Barnes for Rogers County District 2 Commissioner. In the sheriff race, Walton is also endorsed in the Owasso area by the Owasso Fraternal Order of Police which represents the police officers of the Owasso Police Department and by the Owasso Firefighter Union which represents the firefighters of the Owasso Fire Department.
