Tulsa Chief of Police (Retired) Dave Been

Dave Been began his career in law enforcement with the Tulsa Police Department in 1970. He earned his way up to the top retiring from his career as the Chief of Police in 2007. As the former chief of police of a major city police department, he has first-hand knowledge of leading a law enforcement agency through change and progress.  In that regard, he has given his endorsement to Scott Walton to be the next Sheriff of the Rogers County Sheriff's Office.

"I recognized early in his career that Scott was always someone who performed his job with integrity and leadership qualities and could always be trusted to do a good job, regardless of the assignment.  I can't think of anyone better to lead the Rogers County Sheriff's Office," Been said.

Scott began his law enforcement career in Tulsa twenty-seven years ago and his commanding officer was Lt. Dave Been.  "On my first night as a rookie officer I was assigned to Been's command," said Walton.  "Since then, in one way or another, Been was always somewhere in my chain of command. About the time Been went to  headquarters I did as well; and when Been became Chief,  I was working in the Chief's Section as the Public Information Officer," Walton recalled.

Been spoke proudly of Scott's days as the Crime Stoppers Coordinator.  "Under Walton's tenure as the coordinator for the Tulsa Crime Stoppers program, the arrest rate for featured cases hit an impressive seventy-seven percent.  There's no   question that the success of this program was a team effort," Been said, "and Scott contributed a major role in the leadership of the team."

"I can't begin to express how proud I am that Chief Been has endorsed me," said Walton. "He's someone who has a unique perspective of me from a supervisory role; and when someone who's been your boss for nearly three decades gives you their support, it has a tendency to swell you with pride."

"I think the citizens of Rogers County will be well served by Scott," Been said. Scott is a policeman's policeman, and I was fortunate to have him as an officer on the Tulsa Police Department."
