Keetonville Neighbors Gather
for Walton
Friends and neighbors in the
Keetonville Hill/Road area came together to support Scott
Walton for Sheriff and the turnout was not only impressive but also
something of a high point in the campaign because of the turnout of
young people registering to vote.
"There were a lot of younger
people who came to us and registered to vote," said Rose Walton.
"I was so glad to see these young people filling out those forms and
saying they want to play their part in this election."
"The often overlooked youth
vote can no longer be overlooked and I am glad to see so many young
people supporting my campaign," said Scott Walton. "These young
people are joining the mainstream in saying they want responsible,
efficient law enforcement and they want a sheriff who can meet the
needs of the future. Soon, these young people will be the ones
footing the bill and they're wanting someone who is going to be
responsible with their money. As these people start families,
they want to feel that they're safe and protected by law enforcement
and they're telling me that's why they support my campaign."
Scott Walton said that his
campaign staff is working hard to register young voters. "We're all
about the future and there's no better representatives of the future
than young people."
The event, held at the home of
Steve and Francille Guilfoyle and hosted by Mark and Shirley
Lechtenburg, together with Ted and Pam Larkin, braved the day's 95 degree heat and served up
a hot dog and marshmallow roast which made some kids forget the heat
and have fun roasting marshmallows. One child personally
roasted a marshmallow just for Walton prompting him to ask, "Where
else could someone have this kind of genuine good neighbor fun?"
Scott spoke to the gathering
and was well received. "People are excited about this race," he
said. "People are engaged and communicating with us, building the
relationships that need to exist between law enforcement and the
public."
Addressing the crowd, Walton
spoke of meeting the future demands of Rogers County law enforcement
and improving the efficiency of the Sheriff's Office. He spoke of
improving response times for service calls and offered some
articulation about his plan to meet that goal. Walton also
spoke of the need of the Sheriff's Office to foster strong
relationships with the citizens. "
After addressing the group,
individuals spoke to Scott and expressed their support for Walton.
"We need protection and service and that's why I'm voting for
Scott,"
said a Keetonville neighbor.
The Walton campaign reminds
young voters that they can get help registering to vote. Send
the campaign an email and request a registration card or simply ask
any Scott Walton for Sheriff staff member and a registration card
will be provided.
