Deputies Receive Walton

The deputies and staff of the Rogers County Sheriff's Office met with Scott Walton last week in an informal setting at the Ingersoll Ranch where the deputies and Walton held a frank, open conversation about the campaign, the future of the sheriff's office, and ways to implement the structure needed to meet the future.

"These are a great bunch of people who really have it in their hearts to serve Rogers County," said Walton of the deputies.  "They're telling me what they want and providing me with a good strong pulse of the sheriff's office."

Walton said that a recurring theme among the deputies and staff of the department was a desire to become better trained by being able to attend more training courses.  "Schools are important to these guys and it's important to be able to better equip them with the knowledge they need to do a better job" said Walton. "I think that we were able to speak candidly to each other and being able to freely communicate is powerfully important if you're wanting to lead an organization."

The attendees included not only the patrol staff but also jail, communications, and support staff.  "I think it's important to note, and I hope all of these employees understand, that each and every one of them is important to the sheriff's office and that anything we will ever accomplish will require everyone to come together as a family and a team to get a job done," Walton said.

"This night wasn't just about meeting me and feeling out a new boss or me being able to talk to the troops, it was about being able to have a moment for some straight talk and to dispel some rumors that these folks may have been hearing," said Walton. "It's got to be tough on these folk to serve under a political office.  Every few years they have to go through a campaign and live in limbo; that's just hard to even imagine and I have a lot of respect for these people."

Walton said that the sheriff's office employees were enthusiastic about the campaign and ready to get the job done when the race is over.  "We've got a future to build and I just met a group of people who are ready to put in the hard work it's going to take to get us there.  They're a great bunch and they've given me a lot of encouragement. I'm really glad we had a chance to meet with each other and I'm grateful for all of their support."
