Serves Slices for CASA
Scott Walton and numerous other local
celebrities donned on aprons and went to work for CASA (court
Appointed Special Advocates) serving Pizza Hut patrons for the
evening on Friday.
"This was a good time for a
great cause," said Walton, adding: "Can I get you a refill on your
drink?" Walton was in
good company alongside Rogers County Court Clerk Peggy Armstrong and
Rogers County Commissioner Dan Delozier. Other faces seen in
the crowd were Claremore Police Chief Mickey Perry, Jake and Cindy
Polite, the Heffner family of Chelsea, the Chasteen family of Inola
and Darrel Ward of the Nut House.
"There were a lot of good
people there and I was happy to serve them. This night was for
CASA and for the kids served by CASA," said Walton.
Commissioner
Delozier explained the good that CASA does for the county. "They
provide such a valuable service that it could never be measured.
I can hardly imagine the overwhelming fear a child must feel in the
court system and the volunteers that give their time to calm these
kids is precious," he said.
Throughout Walton's law
enforcement career he has seen the ugliness of child abuse in many
forms. "These kids don't have a voice, they don't have the
ability to make decisions and all too often the people who are
supposed to be protecting them are the very ones that are
victimizing them. CASA gives these kids a voice and gives
these kids power inside the courts that they otherwise wouldn't
have. I am very proud to be able to help CASA in whatever way
I can."
Walton also praised the
Claremore Pizza Hut for their generosity in hosting the event.
"Claremore's Pizza Hut was gracious and showed real Rogers County
hospitality," he said. "This is a great example of how businesses,
and the community can come together and make good things happen."
